Gophers Sweep Bemidji

The No. 7 Minnesota men's hockey team cemented
home-ice advantage in the first round of the WCHA playoffs by defeating Bemidji State 4-1 on Saturday night at Mariucci Arena. The victory
secured the team's seventh sweep of the season and moved the Gophers two points ahead of Minnesota-Duluth for first place in the conference.

No. 7 Minnesota took won on Friday and Saturday with 3-0 and 4-1 wins, respectively.

Minnesota also played an uncharacteristically clean series and only took three penalties all weekend to earn a sweep over in-state rival Bemidji State. The Gophers finished 9-1-0 against teams from Minnesota this season.

Gopher Hockey Swept

The University of Minnesota Gophers
have gone the entire season
without suffering a sweep in a two-game series.

Nick Shore scored twice to give Denver a 4-3 win and a sweep over the Gophers. Erik Haula, Zach Budish and Nico Sacchetti scored for Minnesota.

Denver really outplayed Minnesota at what they do best. Minnesota has been so strong on Saturdays and the third period throughout the season. They held neither of those attributes on Saturday. However, it is more than possible to come back and do something about being swept for the first time all season.

Gophers Earn Win Over Cornhuskers

The Gophers men's basketball team is looking down at a tough finish to their schedule, with 5 of their last 7 games coming against ranked opponents. This means that the Gophers really needed the win over the Cornhuskers on Sunday.

Good thing they won 69-61! The Gopher outscored the Cornhuskers 16-6 to begin the second half. With more defense from the Gophers and an Austin Hollins feed to Rodney Williams, resulting in a slam dunk, gave the Gophers a 10-point lead.

With the tough finish to their schedule, the Gopher will take any momentum they can get.

Gophers Take Over No. 1

The Gophers had the weekend off, but still came out on top! The WCHA leaders watched as second-place Minnesota Duluth only gained two points by splitting at Alaska Anchorage and then third-place Denver lost and tied with Colorado College.

Though the Gophers were off, they certainly can still be considered winnings. Here are the top five teams:

1. Minnesota 19-9-1, 15-5-0 WCHA
2. Minnesota Duluth 18-6-4, 12-5-3 WCHA
3. Boston University 16-8-1, 13-6-1 Hockey East
4. Union 16-6-7, 10-3-4 ECAC
5. UMass Lowell 18--7-0, 13-6-0 Hockey East
