Some notable Minnesota Golden Gopher football alumni include Marion Barber III and Laurence Maroney. Both superb running backs have a good chance of winning a Super Bowl ring with their respective teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots. These superstar running backs actually played on the same squad together, making the Golden Gophers running attack the most potent in the nation.
Minnesota Golden Gophers football fell on hard times last season but the future looks bright with head coach Tim Brewster's commitment to recruiting. In their history, the Golden Gophers football team has won six National Championships but none since 1960. More recently, the Golden Gophers football team has won the 2002 Music City Bowl, the 2003 Sun Bowl and the 2004 Music City Bowl.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team wears the school colors of maroon and gold and play their games out of Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In modern times, the Gophers moved from the Kenwood Armory in downtown Minneapolis to the University of Minnesota Field House, later Williams Arena, in 1928. Williams Arena was named after Henry L. Williams, the former Minnesota Golden Gophers football coach in 1950. The arena originally could only sell 9,500 Minnesota Gophers men's basketball tickets, but in 1950, it was remodeled and expanded, making way for a capacity of 18,025. Williams Arena is known as one of the only arenas to have a raised court, in which players must climb stairs to an elevated playing surface.

We found Friday maddening as the Gophers fell to Denver in a 2-0 loss.
So, let's talk about that win on Saturday. Minnesota rebounded from that bad loss Friday night with a huge effort and win on Saturday. The No.2 Minnesota men's hockey team scored five unanswered goals, including four in the third period, as the Gophers picked up a 5-1 win. Now the Gophers are tied for second in WCHA with two more games to go. Zach Budish had four points (two goals and two assists) to tie his career-high to help the win.
Exciting news for Gopher fans everywhere! Gophers senior Trevor Mbakwe has been named the Big Ten Conference Player of the week. This may have been because he had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the 77-73 upset against the Hoosiers. What a great honor for this St. Paul native. Support the Gophers and Trevor Mbakwe, get to Williams Arena and cheer on the Gophers!
