Williams Arena Fun Facts

Construction of Williams Arena building began in 1927 and was completed in 1928, when it was dedicated as the University of Minnesota Field House. The building features a barrel-vaulted roof, maximizing the number of seats in the arena."The Barn" is ranked in the top five of College Basketball Arenas in the country by Inside Sports writers and it is one of just six 1920's era collegiate basketball arenas still in use. The raised floor, one of only a handful in the country, and the deafening roar of 14,000-plus Williams Arena fans unquestionably has something to do with it. Minnesota basketball fans love Williams Arena!

Mariucci Arena Fun Facts

Mariucci Arena is home to the Minnesota Gophers hockey team. Mariucci Arena is considered one of the most historic hockey facilities in college hockey. The student section is one of the loudest in all of college hockey. The Minnesota Gophers are home to 5 National Championships.

Trevor Mbakwe, of the Minnesota Gophers basketball team

Meet Trevor Mbakwe, our favorite forward for the Minnesota Gophers Basketball team. We are especially like Trevor Mbakwe because he is a Minnesota-native who has always known he wanted to play basketball. Standing at 6 feet 7 inches tall, Trevor Mbakwe has also always had the size of a basketball player. Can't beat that.

He started his basketball career at Henry Sibley Senior High School in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. He also played on the Howard Pulley AAU team. After he graduated high school in 2007, Trevor Mbakwe went to Miami-Dade junior college. And thank gosh, he transferred to the University of Minnesota in 2009, and was added to the Golden Gophers Basketball roster that same year.

Gophers 2013 Spring Game Recap Get's us excited for the Gopher Football Season

Gopher news! Minnesota Golden Gophers took the football field at TCF Bank Stadium about a month ago on Saturday for the first gorgeous day of the year for their annual Spring Game. This Spring Game was meant for the football players to show their abilities to coaches and fans one last time before their season opener which is on August 29th against UNLV. And this got us very excited for the Gopher football season.

Here's a quick recap for ya: We saw quarterback Philip Nelson showed skills on the field with 179 passing yards and 45 rushing yards. Head Coach Jerry Kill seemed excited about all the young and upcoming athletes  The Maroon team won the Spring Game but their were huge efforts by both the White and Maroon teams. We can't wait for the Gophers to head into preparation for the regular season because all the Gophers looked great on the field.

Everyone at Minnesota Golden Gophers Blog just wanted to wish all the graduating seniors the best of luck in their future endeavors. We always get a little teary eyed during the final days of school. Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. UNLV Rebels Opening Game

I know I am already getting pumped for the Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. UNLV Rebels opening game on August 29th. It is coming up soon, whether you believe me or not. Last year, the Gophers’ 2012 debut marked the fourth straight season and the sixth time in the last eight years that Minnesota had opened its college football season on the road. But guess what, this year the UNLV Rebels are meeting the Minnesota Golden Gophers at the TCF Bank Stadium on Thursday, August 29th. And we can't be more thrilled to play the Rebels at our home. The game is going to be a great way to end the summer and start off the fall, so bring your friends, bring your family, and get ready for a great day of football. Gopher Basketball Season Review 2013

Gopher Basketball fans, as I was searching around for some news for you, I realized there was no Gopher Basketball season reviews! So I checked the stats and gathered some up for you. Gophers, we had a great season with you. Thank you for all your attendance and support of the Gopher basketball games. Overall, the Gophers went 21-13, which I say, not too shabby! It was so great that the Gophers went 8-10 for Conference games. At home, they went 15-2, which made it for a crazy season for us at the Williams Arena. And as for away games, the Gophers went 3-8. And for games at a neutral location, the Gophers went 3-3. We had fun watching the Big Ten Tournament, where the Gophers lost to Illinois in a close game (51-49) and the NCAA Tournament where they won to UCLA (83-63) but then lost to Florida (78-64). Next season will sure be different and we can't wait to share the experience with you!

Gopher Football Spring Game 2013

Here it is, Gopher football fans. Here are the details about the Gopher Football Spring Game 2013. The U of M football team will play its annual spring game at TCF Bank Stadium for the FIRST TIME this April 24th. That's coming up, fans! The Gophers have been allowed 15 spring games, and the last of which will be the Spring Game. Get to this game to see how the Gophers will be playing this fall season.

It is important to note that the Spring Game is scheduled to start at 1:30pm. This game is free, so make sure to make it out to TCF Stadium! Also, here's some fun news! Bring your kids because there will be free mini footballs for kids in attendance!
