Al Nolen Breaks Foot
Al Nolen has broken his right foot, will require surgery, and reportedly will be out 4-6 weeks. It's a big blow to the #18 Minnesota Gophers as Al Nolen is a senior leader, controls the tempo at point guard, and plays solid defense. In his absence, Blake Hoffarber will move over to point guard and try to fill the gap while Al is out. The time table for Al to return is sometime in mid-March. Hopefully in time for the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Tournament.
Minnesota Gophers Defeat Northwestern Wildcats
The Minnesota Gophers defeated the Northwestern Wildcats 81-70 at Williams Arena on Wednesday night. Blake Hoffarber played point guard for the injured Al Nolen and scored 20 points. Trevor Mbwake had 18 points and 14 rebounds, Colton Iverson had 15 points, and Ralph Sampson III had 14 points. The Northwestern Wildcats had a 34-33 halftime lead but saw that disappear in the 2nd half. The Minnesota Gophers used their size and strength in this contest, starting Mbwake, Iverson, and Sampson against the Wildcats.

Is Pam Borton on the Hot Seat?
Pam Borton is the coach of the Minnesota Gophers Girls Basketball Team. After a Final Four Appearance in 2004, the Minnesota Gophers are enduring some tough times recently. Borton has been the head coach since 2002. This season, the Minnesota Gophers are 8-11 and 0-6 in the Big Ten. The Minnesota Gophers team has fallen from the prestigious place it was after Lindsey Whalen and Janel McCarville led them to the 2004 Final Four. Hopefully Borton can get the team back on track. They have 2 nationally rated recruits coming to Minnesota next season.

Minnesota Gophers Climb To #15 in AP Poll
The Minnesota Gophers are #15 in the most recent AP Poll for College Basketball. At 14-4, the Minnesota Gophers are the highest ranked 4 loss team in the country. The conference is as tough as ever this season.
Minnesota Gophers Host Alaska Anchorage Seawolves
The Minnesota Gophers are hosting the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves this weekend at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers must start earning some sweeps to ensure an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament. If not, they will have to make a run at the Final Five for an automatic entry, which is very hard to do. The Gophers sit in a three-way tie with Colorado College and Wisconsin for fifth place in the league at 16 points. The Seawolves have 14 points. The Rivalry: Minnesota Gophers vs. North Dakota Fighting Sioux
I am biased, but I believe the best rivalry in college hockey is the Minnesota Gophers versus the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. This rivalry continues this weekend when the Gophers visit Ralph Engelsted Arena in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Sioux are on a roll right now and are looking to gain some ground in the WCHA. The Minnesota Gophers need some valuable points from this series and need to sweep some series to get an NCAA birth. Let's Go Gophers.
#25 Minnesota Gophers Upset #8 Purdue Boilermakers
The Minnesota Gophers defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 70-67 on ESPN last night at Williams Arena. It was a huge win for the Gophers, having lost at Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Ohio State already. They are now 13-4 overall and 2-3 in Big Ten play. It was just the 2nd loss for the Purdue Boilermakers and first in Big Ten play. Blake Hoffarber led the way with 26 points and showed his range all night nailing three's. Trevor Mbwake had 7 points and 10 rebounds. Devoe Joseph Transfers from Minnesota Gophers
Last week, Minnesota Gopher guard Devoe Joseph has announced he has left the team and will transfer. He was suspended the first 6 games of the season due to a violation of team rules. It has been reported that he will transfer to the University of Oregon. He was averaging 11.2 points in 8 games this season. It's an unfortunate end to Devoe Joseph's tenure at Minnesota, where he showed promise at the end of last season making the All-Big Ten Tournament Team.

Minnesota Gophers Lose to Union, Tie Ferris State
Well, it wasn't a spectacular weekend that the Minnesota Gopher hockey team had hoped for. After taking 3 points from Minnesota-Duluth, the Minnesota Gophers lost to the Union Dutchmen 3-2 in overtime and tied the Ferris State Bulldogs 2-2. It was two games that the program needed to win. The tie came after head coach Don Lucia decided to forgoe a shootout and take the tie. The program needs to gain momentum after having some rollercoaster seasons recently. The team plays the United States Under 18 Team on Friday in an exhibition match. Get your Minnesota Gopher hockey tickets with Gopher Hockey Tickets!
