Minnesota Wild hire Former Gopher Hockey star Todd Richards

Another cheer for Gopher Hockey. One of our own made it big in the NHL – as the new HEAD COACH of the Minnesota Wild – talk about a hometown dream. Todd Richards was named the new head coach for the NHL Minnesota Wild. Richards grew up in Crystal, Minnesota and played college hockey for my beloved Minnesota Golden Gophers.

I am looking forward to see what Todd Richards can do for the Minnesota Wild team. It already feels good to know that we will have a Gopher behind the bench in the “State of Hockey.”

I'm so excited for a gopher to be a part of the Wild program, I'd rather see a former golden-gopher skating at the Excel, but Coach will do for now.

woo! gophers on the wild team! i think leddy and haula will do great...but i am crying that schroeder went to vancouver. i was hoping he would go ANYWHERE but Vancouver and Dallas. but i guess we can't all get what we want.

Gopher Nick Leddy on the Wild roster certainly brings in added hometown excitement to the Minnesota Wild team. Now, let's just hope he (and all the other draftees) enjoys a successful COMPLETE Gopher career - no ditching our Gophers early for the NHL!

Jordan Schroeder will join Gopher Patrick White on the Vancouver team in the very near future. I bet those Wild Vancouver games will sell out even faster with a couple of hometown Gophers on the ice.
