The Minnesota Gophers swept the Massachusetts Minutemen at Mariucci Arena this weekend. On Friday night, the Gophers won 5-3 and followed it up with a 5-4 victory on Saturday. Senior captain Jay Barribal had a pure hat trick in the first period on Saturday. Freshman center Erik Haula collected 4 assists over the weekend and played on the top line. Mike Hoeffel collected 4 points on 1 goal and 3 assists. It was a good showing for the opening weekend and next up is the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks as they enter their first season in the WCHA. Minnesota Gophers Sweep UMASS Minutemen
