Siebert Field demolition begins - unofficially
The Gophers baseball team played their last game at Siebert Field on May 1 and, about three weeks later, the weather started tearing down the stadium itself. During a recent storm, a pole was blown over, destroying part of the fencing surrounding the outfield. Baseball coach John Anderson has said it was a sign the baseball team needed a new playing field. Although the other eight poles pose a concern since they could fall at any time, they won't be for very long. After 40 years, Siebert Field will be demolished (and soon it will be official!).
Thankfully, the Gophers don't have to wait very long at all. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new $7.5 million stadium is scheduled for June 11.
